DIY Lewis Road Creamery Chocolate Milk


Ahh, Lewis Road Creamery Chocolate milk. The stuff everyone in NZ goes crazy for and out of their way to find. I must admit I got a little caught up in the hype because everyone was saying it tasted better than any other chocolate milk. And while it does taste really nice, it's very easy to make at home. Follow these simple steps to create your own LRC Chocolate Milk.

You will need:
1 x 250g block of Whittakers Milk Chocolate (you won't need to use the whole block)
1 x 750ml Lewis Road Creamery Milk (to be honest though, you could use any full fat milk that you like)
Pinch of salt

Break about 3/4 of the chocolate up into squares and place in a microwave proof bowl and melt in the microwave. Keep an eye on it as chocolate can seize up very quickly if not watched. Melt the chocolate in 10 second bursts.

Heat the milk in a saucepan on the stove. You don't want to boil it, but bring it just to a slight simmer then take off the heat. 

Gently pour the melted chocolate into the saucepan with the milk and stir carefully. Add in a tiny pinch of salt to help bring out the wonderful chocolate flavour. When the mixture has cooled down a bit, pour it back into the milk bottle and refrigerate for a few hours. Enjoy!
