Review • Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh

Today I wanted to do a review on a product I received in the mail about two (I think) days ago, and that product is the Daisy Eau So Fresh perfume by Marc Jacobs. I feel as if I am the last to hop onto the Daisy perfume bandwagon as I was aware of the hype of this well before it was sent to me. I was kindly given a $150 voucher to spend on perfume at the online perfume retailer Smelly Cat (Haha! Friends reference!). Smelly Cat has a huge range of fragrance brands including Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, and Chloe.

I've been wearing Eau So Fresh for two days now, and I LOVE it! The scent is described as being a combination of "Ruby Red Grapefruit, Raspberry, Green Leaves, Pear, Violet, Wild Rose, Apple Blossom, Lychee, Jasmine, Musk, Plum and Cedar."
I love the fruitiness this fragrance has to it, however, that being said, it's not overwhelmingly sweet smelling nor is it headache inducing! Ha!
This is really lovely for both day and night wear, as it is fresh and bubbly but quite mature smelling at the same time due to the woodier base notes. You only need to use approximately one-two sprays seeing as the perfume is rather concentrated, and you probably wouldn't need to reapply throughout the day because the scent lingers on the skin several hours after spraying it on.

I'd certainly recommend this perfume to those who don't usually like girly, floral scents because the Musk and Cedar really balances out the Wild Rose, apple blossom and violet to create a really fresh, fruity scent that isn't overpowering at all.

The bottle it comes in is so cute and looks lovely sitting atop my dresser! The bottle itself is a rectangular shape with slightly curved sides which is made of very sturdy feeling, colourless glass, making it very easy to hold. The lid is made up of a gold sphere covered in 6 little daisies in pink, white and yellow which are made out of a kind of rubber material, so they don't jab into your hand when taking the cap off!

All in all, I have fallen in love with this perfume and I would recommend it to everyone who hasn't tried it yet! This scent is so light and fresh, making it perfect for the upcoming Spring!

On a side note, I'm not sure why, but whenever I get a new perfume I am always super nervous to hold it because I always think that I am going to drop it (not that I ever have). Does anyone else get that feeling or is it just me? Hahaha!

Let me know if you have tried this perfume and what you thought of it! What perfumes do you like?

Make Up Tutorial • Dewy Skin & Pink Lips

Hello lovelies!
I FINALLY got around to filming a new make up tutorial (with my new soft box lights, which I am very proud of)!
I hope you don't mind that it has music playing instead of me telling you the steps. It's just easier that way as I don't have to plan what I am going to say in the video, because let's be honest, talking in front of the camera is not the most natural thing to do. However, I will work on that.

I hope you enjoyed the video, and if you have any requests for future videos, leave them in the comments below!

A Short Post: My Design Work So Far...

I'm not sure if I previously mentioned that I take design as an option at my school, but I thought I'd share my work with you so far. Our task is to create a folio board consisting of a logo, flyer and web page surrounding a made up event. My made up event is called "Take the Cake" which is a home made sweet treats market, which is slightly inspired by the 1940s/50s. One of the main components of my design work is illustration, and I have been drawing (no pun intended) inspiration from the super talented, Dawn Tan, (you have most likely seen her illustrations in Frankie Magazine).

The above illustrations have been done using watercolour paints (I love the Daler-Rowney Aquafine paints), 0.9mm mechanical pencil and 0.1mm Fineliner marker. I erase any unwanted pencil marks with a kneadable eraser.

For obvious reasons, I ask that you please refrain from stealing my images and claim them as your own as I have worked very hard on them for my folio.

Please let me know if you enjoy these sorts of posts where I just show you what I've been up to!

Fashion Must Haves: Winter Edition

A pair of light blue jeans is an essential wardrobe item as they are SO versatile.  They can be dressed up or down, according to the occasion and above all, they are warm! Perfect for this cold winter weather! This pair of high waisted jeans looks really nice with a cropped jumper or with a pretty shirt tucked into them. MOTO BLEACH KRISTEN JEANS $78

I love satchel style bags because not only do they look cute, they also feel very sturdy and secure. Many stores sell this style of bag, however a cheaper alternative would be to scout around at op shops. They have some really nice genuine leather satchels for quite cheap, plus, I find second hand bags look really nice because they have been used, giving them that worn in, vintage look. H&M MESSENGER BAG $30

The next item is a thick jumper, like this cropped mustard one from River Island. These look really nice layered with a collared shirt underneath as well as by itself. This beautiful yellow colour brightens up an otherwise gloomy winter and looks particularly pretty on those with yellow or golden undertones. RIVER ISLAND MUSTARD CROPPED JUMPER $49

I think everyone should own at least one white collared blouse, because like jeans, it can be dressed up or down. I love wearing a collared blouse under a large jumper with the collar peeping out the top, giving the overall look a more tailored feel. If you want to get fancy, you could even try embellishing the collar tips with broaches or clip on earrings! RIVER ISLAND WHITE BOXY SHIRT $51

During the winter, closed toe shoes are pretty much essential (nobody likes wet, cold feet!) That's why I've picked these cool ankle boots by Number One Shoes. They have a slight heel, yet are still low enough to be (not technically but sorta) classified as flats. While I'm not exactly a shoe person, I wouldn't say no to these in several different colours! Hahaha! NUMBER ONE SHOES ADRITA ANKLE BOOTS $40

The final item is a bright red lipstick! I've always thought that wearing lipstick in winter is a lot more bearable than in the summer, because lipstick just melts off in hot weather ,(red lipstick streaming down the face is not an attractive look!) Anyway (slightly off topic there!) I think a pop of a bright colour looks really nice paired with a winter outfit. If you don't like bright red, you could try a bright fuchsia pink instead. RIMMEL LONDON LIPSTICK IN #01 $15

Would you all be interested in a Ball/Prom Fashion and Beauty feature? I was thinking of doing one, but I thought I should check to see if you would actually enjoy that. Let me know in the comments below!

Skincare Starter Kit

I'm not sure if there is a "normal age" to start getting into skincare and beauty, but I was about 12 or 13 when I started a skincare regime with my mini cleanser, toner and moisturiser kit that I received as a magazine freebie. Since then, I've learnt a thing or two about skincare, and I've come up with a basic skincare starter kit, which may be helpful to those who want to get into a proper routine. While I am sharing my knowledge of skincare and skincare products, I am not claiming to be an expert! I'm only 16 after all!

p.s. Prepare for a long post!

Step one is to assess what type of skin you have. Oily, Dry, Normal and Sensitive are the general skin type categories, however, one can technically have a mixture of a few. For example, I have generally oily-normal skin, but I get very dry patches around the sides of my nose and on my chin, just under my lip.Once you know what skin type you have, you can buy and use products accordingly.

The first item for your skincare kit is a cleanser of some kind. A great one that I would recommend is the Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Makeup remover. I love this cleanser because it's a two in one product and it does what it says on the bottle. It's really gentle on the skin and has a really fresh scent to it. If you don't wear makeup and you just want a basic face wash, the Luxury Face wash* by Savar is perfect. It suits all skin types and it leaves you with a glowing complexion.

The next skincare product to look into would be an exfoliator. There are many different exfoliators on the market nowadays which means it can be quite difficult to choose one. Some contain little beads (such as Jojoba beads) that burst when you rub the product into your skin, while others may contain pumice particles to help scrape away (sorry, that sounds awful!) the dead skin cells that sit on the surface of the skin. A scrub that I have been loving at the moment is the St Ives Naturally Clear Green Tea Scrub. I love the apricot scrub of this range but I find that it can sometimes be a little harsh on my skin, whereas this one is a lot more gentle. This particular scrub is oil free and contains salicylic acid which people with dry or sensitive skin might find too drying. If that is you, I would suggest going for a more hydrating product such as Never a Dull Moment by Origins, which contains fruit enzymes that help to gently lift away dead skin without causing irritation.

The next product is a rather debatable one, and that is toner. While some find them pointless and ridiculous, others swear by them to create a perfectly clean and fresh canvas. I must admit, while I do own a few toners, I don't use them all that much. I do like using them in the summer to cool down my face after cleansing and if I have worn a lot of makeup that day, I will sweep a toner soaked cotton ball over my skin to ensure no makeup remains, but I find my skin doesn't really need the extra product. People with all over oily skin would benefit more from toners because they are removing the oil from the skin that would later cause blemishes. A great toner is the Soothing Facial Toner by Simple, which contains witch hazel known to help tone and tighten pores, without leaving the skin feeling oily or sticky.

Finally, moisturisers! I have two moisturisers that I love, one being my daily (Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser) and the other being my nightly (Essential Hydration moisturiser by Savar*). I use my more hydrating of the two at night because my skin tends to be a bit drier at night after cleansing, thus needing a bit more moisture to last till the morning. If the skin around my nose a chin is particularly dry, I will use either a skin oil, such as my Kosmea Radiance 24/7 boost* or a little coconut oil. Both of which help to protect my skin from drying out, much like how applying vaseline to the lips prevents them from becoming chapped. If you have very oily skin, there are plenty of oil free options for you to choose from as well as moisturising mists.

While there are PLENTY of skincare products out there, the best way to take care of your skin is to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Drink approximately 8 glasses of water each day (I have a 750mL water bottle that I drink from throughout the day, and refill when I need to) and make sure that you eat a relatively healthy diet consisting of plenty of fruit and veges (don't worry about the occasional Big Mac, cupcake or chocolate bar! We all have those days!) You can also take skincare supplements if you feel that is necessary.

If you smoke, try your best to either give up, or reduce the amount you smoke because not only does it effect your complexion, but it also is slowly causing your insides to deteriorate.

Phew! That was a lot of writing! Haha! I started writing this at about 3.30pm and now its 5.47pm and it's pitch black outside! Please let me know if this was helpful (If you got throughout the whole blog post, write "Beach Boys" in the comments section. I was listening to the Beach Boys whilst I wrote this post!) If you would like more skincare posts let me know and if you have any questions, either email me or post me a comment!
