"Almost Winter" Skincare Essentials

It's that time of the year again, when it starts getting darker earlier and the nights and early mornings are colder. And of course, with this cold weather comes dry, flakey skin which, needless to say, nobody enjoys.
I've collected together a few of my skincare essentials that help to combat the dryness of my skin during the colder months.

Disclaimer: I am by no means an expert, therefore I only really know what works for my skin and unfortunately cannot guarantee that these will work for you. Now with that out of the way, let's bring out the products…

The first product is my FAVOURITE face wash* by the NZ brand, Savar. This face wash contains lacebark extract, organic cucumber extract and lemon fruit extract which helps to calm and clarify the skin and leaves the skin feeling refreshed and moisturised. It also doesn't leave the skin feeling tight or leave any sticky residue on the skin. I've been trying to save this as I am running out!

The next product is the Soothing Facial Toner by Simple. This toner contains Pro-Vitamin B5 which helps restore, soften and smooth the skin as well as witch hazel to tone and tighten pores. The thing that I love about this toner is that doesn't contain any alcohol which means it doesn't dry out my skin.

The Hydrating Light Moisturiser is a recent purchase of mine. I'm so glad I chose to give this a go because it has quickly become my favourite daily moisturiser. Like the toner of the same brand, this moisturiser contains Pro-Vitamin B5 to help restore and smooth the skin. It also contains Borage seed oil which renews and regenerates the skin. I particularly like this moisturiser because it has no scent which means I won't get sick of the smell (or rather lack of…)

I don't always use facial oils because quite frankly, I don't like the feel of oil on my skin, but the Argan Skin Rescue treatment by Nourish* is a lovely product. I apply this around the sides of my nose, because this is where my skin is really dry and red, and in the morning, the skin is significantly smoother and no longer flakey. It absorbs quickly into the skin leaving no majorly oily residue and has a nice floral scent.

The last two products are lip balms, which are DEFINITE essentials for Autumn/winter. The first lip balm is by Nellie Tier in the scent Orange Blossom*. This product is super hydrating and nourishing. I tend to keep this one at home as I don't want to put any germs that are on my hands into the pot. Instead, I keep this by my bed and wash my hands before I use this lip balm right before bed. Now on to the scent; this has to be THE best smelling lip balm I have ever owned, and being some one who goes through many lip balms, this is quite a statement. HA!

The final product is by the brand Yes to Carrots and it is their Melon Lip Butter. (Funny story, I was talking to someone about this and wondered why it was called Yes to Carrots when it could be called Yes to Melons. I didn't quite think of the connotations of that phrase when I said that to her. Hahaha! Sorry, I am childish!)
ANYWAY, This is the lip balm I take with me when I go to school. I love it simply because it is cheap, portable and really moisturising. The smell is lovely too.

Anyway, those are my "Almost Winter" Skincare Essentials. I'd love to hear what yours are and whether you have tried any of the products mentioned above.

Topsop Lipstick in Ohh La La

I've mentioned this is previous posts but It's only been recently that I've began to use this lipstick again. I'm not quite sure why I went off it originally, but I've found I now really love it.

It looks darker in the bullet than it turns up on the lips. It's more of a soft, light pink and has a creamy finish, however I blot it to create a more matte look. This lipstick is so smooth which means it is really nice to apply, and OH MY GOODNESS the smell! I lOVE the scent! I can't quite put my finger on the smell but I think it's one of those smells you either love or hate.

Anyway, I think it's a nice and more casual alternative to my usual red lipstick.

Have you tried the Topshop make up collection? What did you think?

Beauty and Fashion Wishlist

1. Now that it's getting colder here in NZ I've been looking out for warm jumpers. I absolutely adore this beautiful cream coloured one from Topshop.

2. I really like the striped pattern of this shirt and the 90s cropped style lured me in further!

3. I first saw the Korres lip butters on Estée from Essie Button's blog and ever since then I've been wanting to try them out. They also come is such delicious sounding flavours!

4. Recently my skin has been getting dry spots thanks to the colder weather. I find cleansing oils help combat the dryness and generally make the skin look brighter. I've heard a lot of good things about the Origins Clean Energy Cleansing Oil.

5. Again, I've heard great things about this day cream. This product helps hydrate the skin and improve elasticity.

Adventure to Lush

On the Monday of Easter weekend, my brothers, cousins and I went into town to go to the Moustache Milk and Cookie Bar, which was unfortunately shut that day. So instead we looked around Op-shops/Thrift shops (I'm gonna pop some tags...) and generally dawdled about for the day. Whilst we were browsing my cousin told me that there was a Lush in town (how did I not know about this?!) so I wanted to go and have a look around.
I only purchased one thing because 1, some of the things at Lush are ridiculously overpriced and 2, Not all the products smell as nice as people say (each to their own).

The product I did buy however, is called Tisty Tootsy Bath Ballistic ($7.50) which smells of rose petals, which I LOVE,(maybe I'm being biased because I am named after a rose and because of my blog name...) and contains dried rose petals that float in the bath as the Ballistic dissolves.

I'm probably going to break this in 1/2 or even into 1/4s to make it last longer as it is big enough to do so. Does anyone else do this with Lush products?

Recent Make Up Purchase: Dainty Doll

As you all would know, I have very pale skin which means I usually have to go for the fairest shade in foundation and concealer. Recently I discovered a new make up brand called Dainty Doll. Dainty Doll was created by Nicola Roberts, who, If you didn't know is a member of the British girl band, Girls Aloud. Nicola has VERY pale skin and found that just about every foundation shade looked too dark and orange on her so she decided to create a make up brand that caters for the palest of ladies.
I purchased a concealer in shade 02 (I didn't get shade 01 because I had read reviews saying that the lightest shade was almost white) and a powder blush in shade 04.

When I first opened the concealer, I was a bit surprised at how dark it looked considering it was a product for light skin, however when I warmed the product up with my fingers in the pan the colour began to lighten significantly, which brings me onto the texture of the concealer. At first glance this concealer appears to be quite powdery but when it warms up it turns into a really smooth, slightly creamy consistency, but dries to a slight powder finish when on the skin. I'll keep you posted on how I find this concealer.

The blush that I purchased is a really lovely peachy-pink colour with traces of gold shimmer throughout. I'm not usually one for shimmery blushes but I thought the combination of peach and gold looked very natural. The blushes from the range can definitely be used on darker skin tones, (there is a light, shimmery pink blush which would look beautiful as a highlighter on dark skinned ladies). I havent yet tried this product out yet as I literally just received these in the mail today, but again, I shall keep you updated as to what I think.

I must admit, one of the factors the drew me into this brand was the packaging. I know, I know, it's quite bad that I am so easily swayed by packaging, but it reminds me so much of the Art Deco style posters of the 1920s so I just couldn't resist!

I hope you are all having a nice start to the weekend and enjoy the last of the summer weather! (I am aware that Summer is over but occasionally the sun comes out for a short while, but in good ol' NZ style, it starts raining the next minute!)
