Goodbye 2012!

Hello my chums! As you know today is the last day of 2012. (that is if you live in NZ! If you live elsewhere, just pretend it's the last day, unless of course you are reading this after today...I'll just stop. I'm confusing even myself!)

I figured it would be nice to sum up the highlights of 2012 in a short blog post!

Going to see Florence and the Machine, Flight of the Conchords and Mumford and Sons in concert.
Going to my first ball.
Going to Melbourne and walking around and finding a really cute bakery!
Being a part of school production and being assigned Head of Make up in student run production.
Meeting a whole bunch of awesome people.
♥ Starting this blog!

Thank you SO much for your amazing support over the year. I really do appreciate every single follow, comment and view. I'd love to see you back here next year! I hope you have a happy and safe 2013! Thank you thank you thank you!

New Purchase: Real Techniques Core Collection

Hi lovelies!
First off, I would like to apologise about the fact that I didn't get anymore Christmas related posts done before, well... Christmas! I was really busy organising presents for family members as well as cooking for our Christmas day lunch. And on top of that, Christmas just seemed to creep up on me. Did anyone else find that?

Anyway, as you know, after Christmas there are the boxing day sales that tend to go for a few days. It's a great opportunity to go out and spend that Christmas money and those vouchers, albeit rather busy!
I went out to Westfield with somewhat of an idea as to what I wanted to get: A lipliner, nail polish and a Real Techniques Buffing Brush.
I ended up getting these things, but instead of just the Buffing Brush, I may have caved in and got the Core Collection (4 brushes), which is what I am going to show you now!

I think that was a sufficient amount of pictures, don't you?!

The Core Collection (which retails at $49.99) contains the Detailer Brush, Pointed Foundation Brush, Buffing Brush and the Contour Brush.
I already own the Real Techniques Stippling Brush which I love, so I am sure these will be a hit too! Let me know if you would like a review on these brushes as I would be happy to do one.

Have you used any of the Real Techniques brushes? What did you think of them?

Christmas Gift Idea: Burt's Bees Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme

Hello lovelies! Today I thought I'd share a great Burt's Bees product that would make a lovely Christmas gift for someone (or yourself).

This hand cream is extremely moisturizing therefore being perfect for dry hands. You  also don't need to use much, as a little goes a long way. The 100% natural Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme contains Sweet almond oil, aloe and vitamin E to help keep hands soft and smooth and keep nails strong and nourished.

The reason why I think this would make a particularly good Christmas gift is the scent. It smells very strongly (though not overpowering in any way) of sweet almonds, (think Christmas cake icing. *Ooooh!Festive!* ) It smells good enough to eat (though I wouldn't recommend doing so!)

I must also mention that I think the jar it comes in is absolutely adorable! It can be reused because it is made out of glass and not flimsy plastic. Oh, and the cow on the top is really cute also!

As $29 is admittedly quite a lot for a jar of hand creme, you might want to check that you like the scent of this before you buy it as I am aware that some people don't like the smell. Try out the testers that most shops offer to be sure.

Stay tuned for more Christmas Gift Ideas and hopefully some DIYs if I get the chance!

The Christmas Tag

Hello dear chums! Recently (For obvious reasons) I have been feeling very festive, and what better way to celebrate than to do a Christmas Tag post! Hooray!
Before you ask who I was tagged by, I wasn't actually tagged by anyone, but I felt like doing it anyway.

What is your favourite thing(s) about Christmas?

I love that I get to see all of my family together and Christmas dinner/lunch!

What is your favourite make up look for the festive season?
I don't really have a make up look that I wear for Christmas. However, I might wear a red lipstick if I'm feeling especially festive.

Real tree or fake tree?
As far as I know, my family have never had a real tree. I would love a real tree though as I ADORE the smell of them!

Giving presents or receiving presents?
I've noticed that a lot of people don't ever seem to want to answer this question, but I can honestly say I like both receiving and giving presents. Come on, everyone (whether they admit it or not) loves to receive gifts. As with giving presents, I love to see the reaction of the person who I am giving the gift to. It's also really fun to wrap up presents!

Do you open your Christmas presents morning or evening?
In the morning.

Handmade Christmas cards or bought?
I personally don't mind. It's the thought that counts anyway (gah! cringe)
p.s. As sarcastic as that sounds, I really do mean it!

What is your favourite Christmas film?
Ooh! I LOVE Christmas films! I can't pick just one though, so I shall share a few.
Home Alone, The Grinch, The Santa Claus...

What is your favourite Christmas food?
Hmm...That's a tough one. I really like Christmas ham and the Chocolate Trifle that we have for pudding (Admittedly though, I am being slightly biased as I am the one who makes the trifle!)

As for the people I tag...I tag everyone! If you would like to do the Christmas tag then go ahead and do it! I didn't want to just limit the people I tag.

Floral Themed Wish List

Hello dear readers! As I was making up this Wish List on Photoshop, I realised that there was a bit of a floral/patterned theme going on. And, yes, I'm aware that the purse isn't floral themed, but it is by the Kath Kidston brand which is notorious for their floral patterns, so I thought I would include it anyway!

ALSO, you may have noticed I have changed the Lovely Rose Petal Blog's header! Earlier on in my "Blogging Adventure" I had switched back and forth between blog headers and I was never entirely satisfied. I decided to design a header that reflects my blog title a bit more. Hence the floral pattern inside the lettering! Let me know if you like the new header! (I'd love some feedback!)

REAL TECHNIQUES BRUSH DUPE?!

You may or may not know this, but I love trying out different makeup brushes and I am constantly on the look out for cheaper alternatives to brand name brushes.
I had been doing a bit of Ebay shopping when I came across these makeup brushes. They are by a brand called Oblique (I would link a website but there doesn't seem to be one). From the picture on Ebay, they appeared to be quite dense and well made, and for $13.99 plus free shipping, I didn't have much to lose.
Firstly I would like to apologise about the state of these brushes. I had just used them that morning hence the foundation and powder coated bristles! I use the flat top brush for my powder and I alternate between the other two for my foundation. I LOVE the finish these brushes create. My foundation turns out so smooth because these brushes really help blend the foundation into my skin. They actually remind me a lot of the Real Techniques Brushes because they are so dense and they don't leave bristles all over your face, making it look like you are growing facial hair (hmm fetching right?)

Just to show how dense these brushes are, I took a picture of the bristles (though I'm not sure if it really does justice to the density...) Again, I apologise for not cleaning the brush before I took the picture, but, hey ho! At least you know I really am using them!
I'm not sure why, but this picture of the brush reminds me of a little hedgehog! But to clarify, these brushes are WAAAAAYYY softer than a hedgehog!

The only downside to these brushes is the size. I was expecting them to be of a substantial size (*ahem*) but they turned out to be quite small. Despite being smaller than expected, they work very well. These would be great brushes for your travel makeup bag as they don't take up too much space.

I would HIGHLY recommend these brushes as they are inexpensive but are very good quality.

On an unrelated note (I sound like the boss off the Hennimore sketch on That Mitchell and Webb Look) the nail polish that I am wearing in the photo above is called Raspberry by Barry M, which I have written a blog post on here!

Have you tried any of the Oblique brushes? What do you think of them?
